Wang (NASDAQ: WANG) today announced that the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), Pennsylvania's largest credit union with $906 million in assets, has purchased a total of $550,000 in imaging systems and services from Wang to reengineer and improve credit application processing and documentation handling. The PSECU and Wang will work together to develop the OPEN/image application that will enable approximately 300 PSECU employees to store, retrieve, and process loan applications and related documents quickly and easily.
The PSECU is the fifteenth largest credit union in the nation in total assets, and services over 200,000 members. PSECU employees will use Wang's OPEN/image software to access all documentation electronically, eliminating the manual process of submitting written requests to the records department and waiting for the documents to be retrieved from microfilm. In addition, the application will automatically integrate documents from the loan issuing department, resulting in an estimated 30 percent time-saving in record sorting and handling. Existing documents stored in PSECU's legacy database will also be integrated into the imaging application, allowing employees to locate documents on both the newly developed OPEN/image and existing database systems directly from their PCs.
"By cutting time-consuming manual processes and providing quick access to customer documentation, imaging offers significant time and cost advantages for loan processing," said Rick Long, vice president of data processing for the PSECU and co-coordinator of the software project. "We chose to work with Wang because of their skill and experience in implementing imaging systems that will best meet our needs."
The newly developed OPEN/image application will run on an IBM RISC System/6000 server, using a Cygnet 52 platter jukebox, scanners from Fujitsu and Bell & Howell, and a wide area network (WAN) connecting the system to the PSECU service center.
"We are pleased that following an in-depth, multi-vendor evaluation, the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union selected Wang to help reengineer its loan processing and document handling system," said Paul Moeller, vice president of marketing for Wang's Software Business. "PSECU is one of the most technologically advanced credit unions in the country, extending electronic services to members in Pennsylvania, across the country, and around the world. We look forward to working with PSECU to further advance its information management capabilities."
